Tennis

In 1922, the Westchester Biltmore Country Club opened in the rolling hills outside New York City, offering some of the finest facilities for sports, dining and socializing on the east coast — an outstanding tennis compound among them. Back in the day, grass courts were the mark of the most prestigious clubs. Today, the mystique of a pristine grass surface endures, as Westchester Country Club continues to be among the few clubs to preserve this distinctive tennis tradition, protecting and maintaining five beautifully manicured grass courts.

Representative of Westchester Country Club’s renown, the tennis program is of the highest level, now providing year-round service thanks to our indoor tennis facility that opened in October. These five indoor courts allow membership to continue lessons, clinics, team play, court availability and more throughout the winter season. During the summer, the Club upkeeps 15 Har-Tru courts, alongside five grass courts, in superb condition. The grounds crew works diligently on maintaining the grass courts, which open Memorial Day Weekend and close Labor Day, to ensure membership can play on the surface four days each week. Additionally, there is a hard surface court available at the beach club.

Our current Tennis Director, DJ Geatz, oversees an outstanding instructional program for the membership, bolstered by some of the best assistant professionals in the region. With over 15 ladies’ teams throughout the year, there is room for all levels to participate, practice and compete in MITL and HVL inter-club play. There are three men’s teams to join for inter-club competition as well. The summer junior tennis program offers the Club’s up-and-comers a full range of instruction and training too. The newest youngsters have clinics to help them get in the swing of things, while more skilled players, whether competing in USTA tournaments or on high school/collegiate teams, are provided with intensive drills and gameplay. There is truly a spot for all to improve and have fun on the courts.

Our professional staff works closely with the Tennis Committee to sponsor Club Championships for adults and children, along with more casual formats like an evening men’s league and a weekend mixed doubles round-robin. No matter what kind of a player you are, the tennis shop is fully stocked with equipment, accessories and high quality apparel, including “tennis whites,” per our dress code!

In the tennis history of Westchester Country Club, numerous legendary players from the sport’s past, and up to present day, have enjoyed the pleasures, facilities and excellence found at 99 Biltmore Ave.
